I wanted to share a fiction novel writing theme for cycle breakers: "letting it land." As a cycle breaker myself, this concept was tricky but it's one of my favorite forms of magic. It's tricky because it involves some level of trust, and as a cycle breaker, that can be a tough subject.
Fiction Novel Writing Theme for Cycle Breakers: Letting it Land
Like water and fire to air and earth... the story you want to write has got to land with the reader. It's got to translate from your heart to the page.
Fiction novel writing is a beautiful blend between providing just enough structure, as a writer, and allowing the freedom for the reader to fill in for themselves.
There's a difference between being intentional and wanting to illustrate a point and not trusting yourself or the audience.
It's between show vs tell.
Illustrate vs leave unsaid.
Let the reader's heart and imagination engage with the world, the story you're presenting to them.
It's like setting the stage... how much do we need to have on stage to set the tone? How much structure does the reader need to feel held in your story vs letting them make of it what they will?
In fiction novel writing, the words you use and don't use, pacing, rhythm, voice, dialogue... are examples of how this shows up.
"Letting it land," is what I call it when I've done my due diligence (as a writer and in everyday conversation with others, family, really...) to tune into the reader/ the other person when expressing myself, and then that's it ✨ The magic will move as it will from there.
